My training in the past always seemed to follow the same pattern - lots of initial enthusiasm, then I'd pick up an injury and need to take time off, sending me straight back to square one. Sarah is a caring and genuine PT who listens to her client’s needs. At no time have I felt pressured by Sarah, as I have done with other PT's, to sign up for more sessions or programs, which was one of the reasons I was reluctant to have one. Sarah adapted my program quickly when I found areas of my workout that were not working for me, in terms of my needs and found a much better solution. I instantly felt at ease with Sarah and felt comfortable to share issues that challenge my ability to work out regularly, such as three young children! Sarah, as you know you and I have been working towards a goal, my Dive Master Training. Despite my ankle injuries and my lack of fitness when we started, I just wanted to share a major milestone with you (thank god you insisted on me pursuing cardio!!). Today, one of our tests (if we fail, we can’t pass the entire course, so it’s pretty important) I successfully completed a 400m swim in the ocean in under 12 minutes, earning myself a pass. In my head, your voice was urging me on, “come on lesley, just push for two more minutes, you can do it, push!” Without it in my head I was very close to my lungs burning and my mind giving up. But we did it. I then immediately completed a 15 minute tread water with my hands (up to my elbows) out of the water, I used this time as my cool down time, concentrated on evening out my breathing. Thank you for pushing me beyond my perceived limits. Thank you for planning out my fitness regime, ITS WORKING!! Also as an aside, I can also lift and move a 12kg tank. That was a pleasant surprise!
My goal is to lose 28kg and return to my pre-pregnancy weight. I’ve already lost 18kg and Sarah is helping me lose those last 10kg, arguably the toughest to lose. As a mother herself, Sarah truly understands the challenges young mums typically face to get back into shape. My pelvic floor and fitness has visibly improved with her guidance. By the end of the year I’m aiming to fit my wedding ring again and wear my “skinny” wardrobe.
When I first started training with Sarah I was 6 months post-partum with my second child. Prior to having children I had been reasonably fit but 2 pregnancies, 2 caesareans and raising 2 children had taken it’s toil on my body, fitness and confidence. I wanted to get back into fitness but I was nervous about finding out how unfit I had got and worried I would feel like a failure. I’ve trained with PT’s before who have pressured me to push my body too far and set undesired goals and whose focus was on weight loss rather than become healthier and stronger. My experience with Sarah was the opposite. I felt listened too, our training has been focused on my goals (not societies such as weight loss) and I’ve received nothing but encouragement, understanding and personalised support. I look forward to my sessions with Sarah as I also finish feeling good about myself and proud of my achievements. I’ve noticed fantastic gains in my fitness; I am faster, stronger and healthier. These results show both physically and mentally. I couldn’t have achieved the results I have without the support of Sarah.
It took me sometime to realise what I was doing to stay fit wasn't enough. Sarah examined my overall health and fitness and with her guidance, I have started to turn a corner in taking back control of my own fitness and mental well-being.Sarah is working with me to improve my overall cardio fitness, all over strength, flexibility & balance. Through training we realised that an ankle injury that happened back in 2010 hadn't fully healed nor has the strength and balance fully returned. Through the strength and balance exercises, I have noticed a big improvement. I look forward to continuing my journey with Sarah and reaching my goals of losing some weight but more importantly regaining the strength, flexibility and balance I once had before I was injured.
